With two key defenders missing we were never in this match.

It was fairly even for the first ten minutes and after we conceded the first goal, Anthony Jupp levelled with a stunning 25-yarder.

But within seconds we were behind again and once Dorking got three goals clear, all discipline crumbled.

6-2 down at the break - Connor Denny's goal brilliantly taken - we switched to a three-man defence and went forward whenever we could.

Alex Holmes did grab one goal and there were other chances for Connor Denny and Christopher Nicholson but we paid the price for allowing too many attacks come through the flanks.

But it must be said that Elliott in goal had no chance with a series of superb shots that rocketed in, and he did make a couple of very brave saves.

The second half display was a lot better with Cameron Allan and Ryan Lawford adding some bite in the middle of midfield, but much of Ryan's best work had been done in the first half by winning some very big tackles.

In fact the whole back line - Toby Laker, Alex Moon and Rumon Ahmed (in the first half) were excellent.

All in all a day to forget scorewise but at least they never gave up and the boys will need to draw on that as this season looks like it's going to be a long one.

At least Dorking were a nice bunch of lads and their pitch was not at all bad - the goals were a bit too big for my liking though!
