The new group of under 18's travelled to Pease Pottage on Sunday morning for their first pre-season friendly........
Lee & Kieran had the luxury of being able to play nearly two sides as they travelled with a squad of nineteen players. Pease Pottage provided a good first game as they fielded second year boys who you could see were physically bigger & stronger.
A tentative start from both sides saw YM playing neat intricate football as they tried to pass their way around the heavy challenges of Pottage. The first YM goal was from a forced error, a long throw was steered past the goalkeeper by a Pottage defender. This goal settled the boys down as they neatly crafted the second goal from a fantastic defensive interception from Shane Collins in the left back position, quickly turning defence into attack and play their way into the Pottage box for Jack Measures to slot past the keeper. Ym's third goal was nothing less than a fantastic strike by Louie Foster. After intercepting a Pottage move from central midfield Louie unleashed an unstoppable shot from 30 yards to leave the Pottage keeper with no chance.
YM made eight changes at half time and continued to dominate with no reward for their efforts. When the goal did eventually arrive it came again from some excellent play from right to left with Tyler Leggett breaking into the box to slot past an advancing keeper.
Lee & Kieran were pleased with the performance of the players and especially with the way they coped with some of the physical challenges that were taking place. Pottage had their own chances in the game but when they did manage to breakdown a resilient back four they found Charlie Culver in great form to keep a well deserved clean sheet.
After the game Kieran commented '' A win and clean sheet is always a pleasing result, the boys were asked to play in a specific fashion today, keeping the ball down and moving it with pace at all times, some of the football was exceptional for such young lads. Pease Pottage provided a good physical test to see if the boys would be up for the battle and compete with the age and physical difference, I think they did that well and maintained excellent discipline along side it''.
