YM U18s league campaign took an early dent when they lost their opening fixture 1-0 to Lingfield F.C.

Both sides produced some nice build up play but with no actual end product; 15mins into the game YM lost their skipper Adam O’Carroll with a head injury. Minutes later and YM were caught napping as Lingfield grabbed the only goal of the game. Both sides created chances yet failed to convert due to some resolute defending and excellent keeping as Lingfield went in 1-0 up at half time.

Second half saw YM take control of the game and should have equalised, poor finishing and some good keeping saw YM fail to get on level terms. YM continued to pour forward in search of an equaliser, Christian Chimutengwende surged into the box, only to be pulled to the ground, in everybody’s eyes a cast iron penalty. Referee Mark Chapman raised his whistle to his mouth indicating he was about to blow for the penalty only then to wave play on. Ken Westoby produced the save of the match as he denied Lingfield a second in the dying minutes of the game with a superb one handed save.
