An understrength Horsham YMCA beat a spirited Cobham 2 - 0 at Gorings Mead.
The hosts went ahead in the fourth minute when Dan Dalton whipped in a cross from the left and the Cobham keeper dropped the ball. Paul White mis-kicked it in the ensuing scramble before Peter peacock beat a defender to the ball and stabbed it over the line.
The hosts then had to soak up a lot of pressure as Cobham's direct approach kept them busy. The visitor's shooting was generally wayward but Paul Williams had to be alert to tip one effort round the post.
YM who were without Nick Billingham and Gary Russell, were further hampered when Nick O'Carroll hobbled off just before the break.
But the home side started the second period brightly and gained a grip in midfield. Tim Martin broke clear and struck a shot that the Cobham keeper parried before the ball ws hacked off the goal line.
Chris Plumridge then toe-poked a half chance wide of the upright but YM were indebted to Williams for a brilliant block when an unchallenged Cobham player looked certain to score.
Cobham continued to stay in the ascendancy, urged on by their vociferous manager but they failed to create another clear cut opening.
The hosts eventually put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time when Mark Derbyshire broke up an attack and fed Martin on the right flank. The striker lost his marker, cut in on goal and coolly place dthe ball pst the advancing keeper.
The victory maintained YM's 100 percent league record and Adam O'Carroll and Joe Williams were outstanding.
