YM BOSS John Cumberbatch has likened his first weeks in the Gorings Mead hotseat to a highly stressful pre-season.
As the new manager strives to find a settled side, he is still making decisions on players he wants to keep in the side and areas of weakness.
The trouble is, YM are rock bottom of the Ryman Division 1 South, with results such as Saturday’s 4-O defeat to Burgess Hill Town pressing home
the need for points.
Cumberbatch said: "I am still in that stage of finding out, at a difficult time when there are points at stake.
"There are still some players that I am not 100 per cent sure on. It’s a bit like pre-season, where you have to look at players.
Even those players you know very well, you need to see how they react.
"There were certain .players who had good performances, a few who ticked the boxes and I know I am happy with.
"I was very pleased with the attitude, from the point of view that no-one gave up even when we were three, four down."
The day got off on the wrong foot for YM when Cumberbatch was forced into a last minute change. Former Barnet and Billericay Town frontman man
Solomon Henry’s move to YM hit a glitch so the shape had to be tinkered with.
Although the visitors were on the back foot for much of the first half and saw Hillians striker Steve Harper miss a penalty Gavin Gordon had a glorious chance to put YM one up going into the break, but side footed wide.
In truth though, it was only a matter of time before Burgess Hill made their dominance pay. And nine minutes into the second half, the talismanic striker atoned for his earlier spot kick misery by heading home a cross from promising youngster Ollie Lockyer, which had been flicked on by Danny Gainsford.
It was 2-0 on 64 minutes when Lockyer this time delivered an inswinging corner that Gainsford headed in and a minute after that Lloyd Cotton snaked his way along the line and scored from an outrageous angle.
Sol Bowra was mugged on halfway allowing Harper to send Danny Curd racing away for the fourth.
YM (4-4-2): Fox; Dudley, Adewumi, B Bowra (Ramsay 45), S Bowra, M Cumberbaich (Reid 77), Newman (Henry 67), Simpson, Gordon, Lott, Collier.
