COLIN Jenkinson didn’t pull any punches after watching his Horsham YMCA side slide to their ninth league defeat of a tumultuous season.
YM went down 3:2 at home to Ramsgate on Tuesday night and Jenkinson admitted yet more players would come and go through the Gorings Mead revolving door until he hits upon the right formula.
Youngster Louis Masih provided the one bright note in the night. The 16-year-old came off the bench for his league debut to score YM’s second, and he had the Rams defence worried.
But Jenkinson was unimpressed with his teammates.
"The players have got to be disciplined, and they are not, " the exasperated boss said. "We are getting punished by poor sides, there is enough quality in our dressing room to get a result out of that (Tuesday’s game).
"Young Louis comes on and he scores a goal, then he troubles their full back and draws a foul. So we d0n’t give him the ball, why not? He was ripping them apart, it’s beyond me.
"l signed Hassan Nyang last week and was told he is a box to box player; so what does he want to do? Sit in front of the back four!"
Jenkinson’s mood was deepened after being banished from the dugout as his dismay at the officiating boiled over in the second half.
The sparse crowd reflected YM’s predicament, and the hosts’ fragile confidence was knocked in the fourth minute. Rams left back James Gregory tried his luck from range, and keeper Mark Fox must have been convinced it was sailing wide as he stood and he watched the ball flick in off the underside of the crossbar.
YM did muster a good response, Fabian Brown headed wide when well placed almost immediately after conceding.
And the home side were back on terms in the 13th minute, when a three on three break allowed Gavin Gordan to slide Michael Amponsah in for a clinical finish.
Ramsgate were punching huge holes in the YM defence though, and were soon back in front. Tom Tsangaridis galloped into one of those holes as he latched on to Mark Lovell’s flick, and finished coolly between Fox’s legs. •
Ramsgate’s ability to break play up and waste a little bit of time just as YM built up a head of steam began to agitate the home bench as the visitors saw the out comfortably.
There was a more low key start to the second period, with Gordan’s flick from a Joey Collewijn cross the closest to goalmouth action.
When some did arrive, it was all YM’s in the making. Pity it was at the wrong end. Scott Kirkwood’s loose pass in defence was pounced upon, and Tsangaridis swept a shot into an empty net on the hour.
Things started to look pretty desperate as every incident prompted an inquest. Masih lifted the mood though 20 minutes from time when his cross shot found a way into the net via the far post. But despite his promise, YM rarely looked like scoring the leveller.
YM (4-3-3): Fox; B Bowra, Newman, Woodburn, S Bowra; Nyang, Kirkwood, Collewijn; Brown, Amponsah, Gordan.
