ILL DISCIPLINE is undermining Horsham YMCA’s attempts to escape their early season woes.
Two red cards in this 3-2 defeat to Whitstable following one in the 5-0 mauling at Worthing keep on leaving Colin Jenkinson’s side with an uphill battle.
Add to the mix an unfortunate own goal plus an injury to goalkeeper Sam Foreman, and the Gorings Mead outfit can feel rightly down on their luck as they prop up the Ryman Division 1 South table.
Saturday’s loss had started so well for YM, as after a flurry of early corners, Brandon O’Neill swung a set piece straight in. Although there were question marks over the
goalkeeper, YM cared little as they celebrated.
The lead lasted 15 minutes before Whitstable struck back in fortuitous fashion.
A speculative shot from the visiting side was headed well wide until it cannoned off Dave Corey’s back and took a wicked deflection beyond a stranded Foreman who was
ready to usher the shot past the post.
In a free flowing contest, YM regained the lead soon after thanks a piece of individual brilliance. Winger Eddie Walker skinned his man and smashed an emphatic finish
into the bottom corner across the Whitstable stopper.
At the break it looked rosy for the hosts, but started to fall apart when Foreman went off with a suspected Achilles problem, to be replaced by Andrew Osei, who
promptly flapped at a corner, allowing Stuart Vahid to net for 2-2.
Tommy Brewer then saw his second yellow card of the afternoon, followed five minutes later by a second booking for Gerald Alosa for a foul in the box.
Vahid stepped up to give Whitstable the win.
