THREE goals in seven first half minutes clid the damage for Horsham YMCA on Tuesday night as they went down 4-1 at home to local rivals Burgess Hill to make it two defeats from two.

Two goals in as many minutes from Steve Harper, the second from the penalty sp_ot and a Danny Curd finish saw the hosts trail 3-0 at the break, and substitute Lloyd Skinner tapped in a fourth on 69 minutes to end any hope of a comeback.

There were promising moments for Colin Jenkinson’s all-new YM side. Only some brilliant close range saves from Hillian’s stopper Joel Harding prevented them from scoring before half time and they did find the net late on through Tommy Brewer.

YM keeper Andrew Osei did well to keep out Curd’s close range header after three minutes as Hill came racing out of the traps. At the other end striker Gavin Gordon stole in at the back post from a corner but his volley was somehow blocked on the line and in a blink YM were 3-0 down.

First Harper curled in from the edge of the box with Osei unsighted by a crowd of players and then almost from kick off Stuart Duffy halted Ronnie Green’s surge into the box and Harper slotted in the penalty.

A third came on 22 minutes, again Harper’s cross from the left caused Osei problems and Curd tapped in.

Jenkinson will be pleased with the reaction of his players as first Gordon lobbed over from Michael Amdonsah’s line pass and then Harding somehow kept Amdonsah out from point-blank range before again denying the striker, and Brandon O’Neil with another fine double stop.

In a second half of fewer chances Harper set up Skinner to wrap things up, Gordon again missed a golden chance but Brewer capped a determined midfield display with a late consolation.

YM (4-4-2): Osei; Dufly, Ludford (Walker), Olafunmishe (Farduaharson 75), Alosa; Males (Grant 65), O'Neil, Brewer Barkley; Gordon, Amdonsah.
