CHRIS White has set his sights on Horsham YMCA’s highest ever league finish after Easter Monday’s 1-0 defeat of Worthing.
Mike Huckett’s second half penalty was enough to upset the play-off chasing Rebels, and propel YM to ninth on 55 points - one behind their tally of 56
in their debut Division 1 South season in 2006/07.
White said: "We want to finish as high as we can and we want to beat the total points from that season, so the target is to see if we can finish ninth or
higher."
The Gorings Mead outfit gave a much improved display in Monday’s clash after a dressing down from their boss in the wake of a 2-0 defeat at Chipstead 48
hours earlier.
In a game of few chances, Tony Di-Benardo barely had a save to make in the YM goal on his return from suspension.
The better opportunities fell for the home side, Terry Dodd and Matt Geard went close, whiile Worthing stopper Alan Mansfield was on top form.
lt continued in much the same style throughout the, second half, and it was good YM movement which led to the penalty. John Westcott and Geard
combined to draw the foul from former YM man Glen Woodburn, and Huckett coolly convertecil the spot kick. Worthing threw mein forward in the clos-
ing stages but as YM kept both strikers on the pitch, it was the home side who went closest to scoring again through Gavin Geddes amd Dodd.
White remarked "I told them after Saturday that we cannot take liberties. We played with passion and we played some good football, we were the better
side from start to finish."
"We have to realise we have to put that kind of display in every game, it was more like we have been playing in the last few months."
YM (4-2-2-1-1): Di-Bernardo; Waits, T Timms, R Timms, Brake; Gedling, Huckett; Westcott (Pulling 75), Lawley; Geard (Geddes 80); Dodd (Cooke 88).
