HORSHAM YMCA paid the price for early wastefulness in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Chipstead.
Boss Chris White was left fuming at the manner of the defeat in which he believes his side under-estimated their hosts.
He remarked: "I was not happy at all; I tore into them at the end of that one, I thought we had left performances like that behind three or four months ago, "
"I really dildn’t think we could play like that again and thought we had left those kind of performances behind."
It was not all bad for YM, they did absolutely dominate possession, but the finishing left a little to be desired, while two breakaway goals caught them out. ’
In fact, White’s men could have had a 3-0 advantage after just 15 minutes; Tom Lawley put a header over the bar, Terry Dodd hit the post and Dodd,
Matt Geard and Mike Huckett all left a wicked Nigel Brake cross to each other.
"From the sidelines you can see things developing," White commented. "l knew Chipstead had conceded two early goals in the midweek game and that
was game over. But now you could tell they were growing in confidence when they should have been at least two down.
My players looked like they thought it was too easy.
"Chipstead were poor and we were dragged down to their level really."
ln the second half, YM reverted to the football they had been playing much earlier in the campaign and suddenly looked the vulnerable team
which struggled for results in the first few months.
Two goals were conceded on the break, and,Dodd, Brake and Neil Watts were denied by some line saves from the Chipstead goalkeeper as they went on to claim ra valuable three points.
"They were fantastic saves White added. "We could quits easily have won that 6-2."
"But we allowed them think they had a chance, and it ended up a bit like the second half from the Godalming match."
