THREE clean sheets in a hectic week is a pretty satisfactory return for Horsham YMCA.
A 1-0 defeat of Walton Casuals was followed by a 0-0 draw with Met Police two days later, and less than 48 hours after that, YM were again held
at home by Merstham. And despite a number of presentable chances going begging, manager Chris White declared himself happy with Saturday’s result.
"The lads have dug deep," he remarked. "l am really proud of them, they really put themselves on the line to keep ‘a clean sheet all week. lf we had not
played on Thursday night, we would have won this one."
With a number of the squad still recovering, or nursing knocks from Thursday’s exertions, YM made four changes.
Martyn Flack was back on duty at Broadbridge Heath, Matt Geard was ‘so sore he couldn’t walk and Mike Huckett suffered an ankle injury. John Westcott was also
dropped ot the bench for a bit of a rest after playing every minute of the previous three matches.
Although the hosts made changes, they were on the front foot. Terry Dodd failed to convert when clean through, and Tom Manton was only denied by an excellent last
ditch tackle, while Mark Pulling just failed to get on the end of Nigel Brake’s teasing cross. Merstham did threaten though, the lively Wes Goggin had an effort smothered by Tony Di-Bernardo in their best spell.
It was more of the same in the second halt". Pulling went close with a volley, as did Luke Gedling, while Tom Lavvley hit the bar after cutting in off the wing, and late
on substitute Westcott shaved the outside of the post.
