HORSHAM YMCA threw away a 3-1 half time lead to go down 5-3 at Godalming Town in their second successive league defeat.

A Terry Dodd brace and a Matt Geard goal, sandwiching a single Town goal had YM in cruise control after 45 minutes but they slipped into neutral l after the break and the sending off of their keeper Tony Di-Bernardo capped huge frustration for manager Chris White.

“The saying is football is a game of two halves and it was certainly the case on Saturday,” he remarked.

"We were superb in the first half, 3·1 up and playing the kind of football we have done in the last few months.

"The second half we just didn’t come out of the dressing room and probably thought the game was won. We were a little bit lazy which is not what we’ve been about recently? White’s men capitalised on a good start when .Geard's inch perfect through ball sent Dodd racing clear and the YM striker tucked the ball away for 1-0.

Dodd had a second five minutes later, another fine pass from Geard setting him up on the opposite side of the box and he finished across the keeper. Ten minutes later Tom Manton could have done with a shout of ‘time’ as he hurried controlling a high ball and possession was lost, and Phil Williams outmuscled a defender before pulling one back.

But bang on 45 minutes Dodd and Manton combined, Manton picked out the run of Geard at the near post and his neat finish made it 3-1.

YM had dealt with Town’s direct style with ease in the first half but suddenly the long balls became a problem and after a couple of warning shots across the bow the hosts netted three times to lead 4-3.

With 15 to play a Town forward beat Nigel Break to go one-on-one with Di-Bernardo, who could only haul him down and was duly given his marching orders.

Defender Tony Timms replaced him in goal but could do nothing aboutthe resulting penalty and it ended 5-3.
