A POINT at Ramsgate would normtally be an impressive result — but the fact Horsham YMCA came away from Saturday’s game disappointed with a 1-1 draw shows how they have matured.

The ten men hosts came back from a goal down to claim a share of the spoils, which keeps them in touch with the race for playoff places,1 while YM continued their run of form to move up to 13th.

Boss Chris White said: "We were very disappointed not to have won the game, but if you would have said to me last week that we would have gone to Leatherhead and Ramsgate and get four points I would have taken that. "

After an evenly contested opening, YM had a chance to go ahead when Rams defender Jason Dolby handled John Westcott’s shot after the winger cut inside. After a miss against Eastbourne two weeks ago, Terry Dodd smashed the penalty straight down the middle, no messing.

And YM’s chances of a seventh league win were further enhanced when Rams stopper Danny Twyman saw red for a rush of blood when he clashed with Matt Geard.

YM’s spell in the driving seat didn’t last long, and the Rams pulled level in iirstl half stoppage time when Warren Schulz was picked out by a long free kick, and the skipper composed himself before firing home through a sea of legs.

As the heavy pitch out up in the second period, Ramsgate defended resolutely and the match turned into a bit of a battle.

Debutant Zak Thomas had the pick of Ramsgate’s chances, when he beat the offside trap only to roll a shot agonisingly wide.

YM on the other hand, were throwing the kitchen sink at their hosts. Tom Manton had the best of their chances when a dazzling solo run was stopped by a fine save.

YMCA (4—2-3-1): Di Bernardo; Watts, Brake, Cooney, Metcalf; Huckett, Gedling (Lawley‘70); Westcott, Manton, Geard (Geddes 80); Dodd.
