HORSHAM YMCA suffered their fifth league defeat of the season, going down 2-0 at in-form Fleet Town on Saturday.
YM were more than a match for their hosts before 'committing suicide' after 30 minutes when goalkeeper Tom Rand was penalised for taking the ball outside his area and James Field scored the resulting free kick.
The visitors continued to create chances after the interval but Darren Wheeler's goal seven minutes from time sealed Fleet's sixth win on the trot to move them second in Ryman One South.
YM boss Chris White said: "For the first 30 minutes we dominated possession and were playing really well but then we committed suicide.
"It's a tough place to come so I would have been delighted to come in 0-0 at half-time but 1-0 down against a team who have won six on the trot it was always going to be an uphill task."
White's side made a lively opening to the game and midfielder Tom Manton had a great chance to put his side ahead after ten minutes. Gavin Geddes, on his first YM start picked out Manton from the left of the box and he cut inside the fullback but wanted a touch too many and the home stopper smothered the chance.
Geddes forced a good stop frqm the Fleet keeper but on 30 minutes the home side were gift wrapped the opener. Rand, having twice already been warned about travelling outside the box with the ball in his hands was pulled up by the linesman and Field stroked in the free kick.
YM were again competitive in the second-half with Geddes forcing another save from the man between the home sticks and a Manton header which dropped onto the bar. New signing Terry Dodd came on for the final 25 minutes and impressed upfront, but it was Fleet who had the final say when Wheeler got across Steve Metcalf to plant a fine header past Rand.
"It was a closer game then the 2-0 scoreline but it was a fair result because they scored twice and we didn't," White conceded.
