White questions if his YM squad is 'good enough'

HORSHAM YMCA manager Chris White has threatened sweeping changes after his side suffered three league defeats on the bounce.

Losses to Dulwich Hamlet, Croydon Athletic and Folkestone Invicta have left White's side stranded on five points, and the number of goals conceded in that time - 11 in all - has the boss concerned.

YM will also be without Simon Lockwood for 'months' after he suffered a broken leg in the 3-0 defeat to Folkestone on Saturday. Lockwood clashed with Jimmy Dryden as he attempted to claim a cross, and his standing leg became stuck. The keeper, signed from Horley Town in the summer, underwent surgery to insert a pin on Monday.

It is the fourth bad injury YM have suffered already this season - Tony Timms broke his arm in the defeat of Met Police last month, Dan White is awaiting knee surgery and youth team goalkeeper Chris Corbin has also suffered a broken leg.

Those are in addition to injuries to Nigel Brake, John Westcott and James Rhodes. "We are not having the best of luck at the moment," White remarked.

And White is considering new faces to breath life into a campaign which looked to be up and running after an unbeaten three game start.

He said: "For the first few games you could put those kind of performances to the pace of the game at this level.

"But they should be used to that now. There might be some changes over the next week or so. I have stayed loyal to the players who have got the team out of the County League - I'm starting to wonder whether they are good enough."

White admits that after looking at the fixture list, five points at this stage of the season would have been considered a real boon, but a return of none from nine is disappointing.

"We have played four of the top six, and beaten Met Police who will be in the top six," he said. "Because we started ok, maybe one or two players felt the football was not as difficult as it might be."
