TERRIFIC pre-season results against Tooting, Bognor and Horsham have sent Horsham YMCA 'flying' into the new campaign. Chris White's men make their return to the Ryman League with the visit of Walton & Hersham on Saturday, and although the manager is not taking significance from a win and two draws against Ryman Premier opposition, it has his side buzzing. "We are looking forward to it, pre-season has gone pretty well for us," White remarked. "We had three good results, but these games are just about fitness. You always say pre-season results mean nothing, but decent results do not do your confidence any harm. The boys are flying at the moment it's a job to keep them in check." For the visit of Walton, new striker Sam Jeremiah is nursing a back injury, Mark Pulling is suspended and Anthony Hibbert will not be considered after only recently returning from holiday. And White knows YM are in for a tough game against formed foe John Crumplin, boss at Redhill last season. "It will be tough, but there will be no easy games," White remarked. "We came up against Mr Crumplin three or four times last season and he will be very keen to put one over me. "We spoke to Mark Hawthorne at Horsham (after Walton beat the Hornets 2-0), and he said they work hard and get in your face, but we had more quality." YM's summer signings in full: John Westcott, Nigel Brake, Steve Sargent, Matt Simpson, Mike Huckett, Simon Lockwood, Luke Gedling, Anthony Hibbert, Mark Pulling, Sam Jeremiah, Dan White. |
