NEW HORSHAM YMCA shot stopper Tony Di Bernardo has enjoyed a dream start at his new club.
Transferred to YM at the end of last week from Worthing, in a deal which saw Matt Simpson go the other way, Di Bernardo has kept two clean sheets and saved three penalties in an astonish¬ing week. In that time, Chris White's men have picked up four points to distance themselves from the Ryman Division 1 South strag¬glers. White made the change af-ter losing patience with regu¬lar keeper Tom Rand after one mistake too many. Rand won his place back at the start of the season after Simon Lockwood, signed from Horley Town, broke his leg. But after some costly errors last season, and a howler in the 2-2 draw with Merstham last week, White sought a replace¬ment. He said: "As we have seen in this league, every keeper cam kick like an arrow, and that's where Tom can struggle. His mistakes have been big onos and have cost us. "I had to do something about because it is destroying the lads in front of him. "But hopefully Tom can comie back to the goalkeeper we know he can be. "I think I have got a good deal (with Simpson going in the oth¬er direction), Tony's distribu¬tion and handling is great." |
