It's decision time

CHRIS White has some tough decisions to make ahead of the new season after watching Horsham YMCA record some impressive pre-season results.

A 1-1 draw at home to • Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday was followed up on Monday night with a 3-0 defeat of Bognor Regis Town. Both games presented a different challenge for YM manager White who has to trim his squad with kick off just eight days away.

Ideally the boss wants a 20 man squad, and that means there will be some disappointed faces at Gorings Mead in the next few days.

White said: "I have some hard decisions to make, currently I have about 25 players and that will need to be trimmed down."

New boys Nigel Brake and John Westcott have impressed so far, while Mike Huckett, signed from Arundel, has found his feet in the two most recent games. White is also speaking to former Crawley, Leatherhead and Met Police midfielder Steve Sargent.

"Nigel and John are doing well," White said. "They are exactly what I expected, they have been outstanding, in the way they prepare themselves and the way they are in the game."

Fans hoping to see the pair line up against former club Horsham in the final pre-season game at Gorings Mead tomorrow will be disappointed however - Westcott is attending a wedding, and Brake has work commitments.

On Saturday, it was another ex-Hornet which stole the show, Tom Graves netted in the 1-1 draw at home to a strong Tooting side. And on Monday, YM survived an early barrage to record an impressive 3-0 win against another Ryman Premier outfit, Bognor.

The mobile Bognor mid-field gave the hosts the runaround in the opening 20 minutes, before a switch at half time, and Huckett bagged a brace before Sadough hit the third after rounding the keeper.

YM have struck a kit sponsorship deal for the new season with long term backer Victor Gladwish, the club have expressed their thanks for his involvement, while Hepworth Brewery is sponsoring every home match.

The club is also searching for a part-time cleaner, contact Mick Browning on 01403 252849 for information.
