HORSHAM YMCA could face an agonising wait to see if they are crowned Sussex County League Division 1 champions.

If YM win tomorrow, they must hope Eastbourne United lose and Arundel fail to win their final game. Any other scenario will leave the Gorings Mead club sweating on the outcome of a Sussex County FA disciplinary.

Chris White's side could be in line to receive three points as Chichester City United face a charge of fielding a player while suspended.

Callum Cutler came on as a substitute in Chichester's 2-0 defeat of YM in March - he was ineligible due to unpaid fines to the Hampshire FA.

The recovery of the points would see YM crowned champions with a win against Oakwood - which has huge implications for Horsham's hopes of ground-sharing at Gorings Mead.

County FA chief executive Ken Benham commented: "From our point of view, Chichester have 14 days to respond. They may request a personal hearing and we will go through the process. It is my intention to get this sorted out as quick as we can bearing in mind the time of year.

"It may be as early as next week."

The Sussex County League is unable to make points alterations until the County FA has completed its proceedings.

There is a precedent from earlier this season, Steyning's three points for a win against Seaford in Division 2 were given to the opposition for fielding an ineligible player.

On Tuesday, YM said they were left in need of a miracle following their shock 2-1 defeat at relegated Worthing United.

The result also came as a potentially devastating blow to the proposed ground share with Horsham, who are relying on their former neighbours to move up to the Ryman League so they can end their exile in Worthing.

Horsham boss John Maggs was at the Robert Albon Memorial Ground along with several board members and Hornets fans to see Tom Lawley's cracking effort on the stroke of half time put YM on their way to toping the table, before yet another Tom Rand howler turned everything on its head.

The stopper dropped a routine corner straight at the feet of Tom Dye who gratefully tapped in and seven minutes later yet more indecisive defending let in Jamie Watts to score the winner to the delight of former YM boss

John Suter in his last game in charge of Worthing.

While YM were floundering, Arundel delivered a message of intent with a 4-1 win over Hassocks, a result that leapfrogs the Mulletts into second on goal difference. White's men now need either Arundel or leaders Eastbourne to do them a huge favour on Saturday - not likely according to the dis-consolate boss.

Eastbourne are once again favourites with a two point advantage over both YM and Arundel, who play Ringmer in what will be a nerve jangling final day which Horsham Football Club will be equally interested in.

With the County League standing firm on their rules not to allow ground sharing, Horsham are banking on YM to cure their latest headache with promotion.

Under Ryman League rules Horsham can only stay at Worthing for a second season if they have planning permission on a new ground approved or they have an appeal lodged. Having withdrawn their appeal on the Holbrook site last month the Hornets could find them-selves in limbo unless another agreement can be reached with the league, YM go up or the County League back down.

A dejected White said: "We were second best all over the pitch unfortunately. They'll never have a better opportunity then they've had tonight and certain players unfortunately have gone missing."

Magic moment: Tom Lawley's thunderbolt gave Worthing keeper Kieran Mann no chance.
