Following Saturday's 4-1 defeat of Ringmer YM boss Chris White revealed how he asked Elliott to play more like his idol Fernando Torres - and the former Worthing man responded with a hat trick.

A draw for Wick and wins from Three Bridges and Eastbourne United meant YM were unable to profit extensively from their win, but White was delighted.

"At times in the second half we were rampant, it was more like we were earlier in the season," White com-mented.

"I have been on at Paul to play higher up the pitch, ask¬ing him to play like his hero Torres."

Elliott's second followed the example of Liverpool ace Torres, known as El Nino in his native Spain, as he nipped in between a hesitant defender and keeper to slide home an opportunistic strike.

Playing against the wind, YM took an early lead when Matt Geard and Tom Manton combined to tee Elliott up 25 yards out. He still had a bit of work to do, but surged past the centre half into the box before dispatching a fine fin¬ish.

Ringmer levelled though, Paul Williams misjudged a high ball and James Sowter popped up in between Tom Graves and Martyn Flack to prod home.

YM spent the entire sec-ond half inside Ringmer ter-ritory, Elliott's Torres-esque strike restored the visitors' lead before Tom Manton converted Tom Lawley's corner to allow some breath-ing space.

Elliott wrapped up the scoring five minutes from time with a poacher's finish after the Ringmer keeper could only push James Rhodes' shot into his path.

White added: "With this weekend's results a few sides have started to fall by the wayside, we are still in there though."
