CHRIS White believes Horsham YMCA need to go on an incredible end of season run if they are to wrestle their way back into the Division 1 title reckoning.

Saturday's 2-0 loss to Chichester City United dropped YM into fourth, seven points adrift of leaders Eastbourne United. Any hope of securing a Ryman League place also looks more precarious by the day with in-form Wick making a surge into second spot. White said: "We are making it very difficult for our-selves, but it's not over by any means.

"It's just not in our hands any more.

"We are now talking in terms of a ten game season and we have to win nine of them."

YM started on the wrong foot immediately at Chichester, the defence lost Benjamin, who had stepped away from Martyn Flack and volleyed in a superb second minute opener. YM stuck to their guns, but on a pitch drying out in the spring sunshine, it became hard to play attractive football. "I tried to warn them against it," White lamented.

Flack, who had a bad day, was the villain of the piece as YM went two down. His tug on Benjamin in the 33rd minute allowed Vassallo to step up and slot home a cool penalty.

The visitors had the more possession, but Tom Lawley's corners failed to find a target while Matt Geard, Paul Elliott and Ryan Bradley put pot shots over the bar.

White's half time roasting had little effect, and it was goalkeeper Tom Rand who prevented YM from going further behind when he kept out another spot kick, again conceded by Flack.

That could have been cru¬cial when it was Elliott's turn to win a penalty 20 minutes from time, but Lawley missed it and YM heads dropped.

The afternoon worsened when Matt Geard was sent off for his part in an impromptu wrestling match.

White commented: "Had Tom scored we might have gone oh to get something from the game.

"It's places like Chichester, where you have to dig a result out, where championships are won, not thrashing Whitehawk on a beautiful playing surface." YM
