SUBSTITUTE Scan Dobbs' goal in the fifth minute of injury time dealt a sickening blow to Horsham YMCA's Division 1 title hopes on Tuesday night.

With the half time score poised at 1-1 after Tom Manton had equalised Selsey's 18th minute opener, both teams looked threatening in a feisty second half. But the scores stayed level until, with time ticking well over the 90 minutes, YM failed with several opportunities to clear and Dobbs found the top corner with the last kick of the game.

"I think that's the most sick I have ever felt at the end of a football match," admitted a dejected Chris White., the YM boss.

Manton thought he had levelled the scores earlier but his effort was ruled out as offside and the winger was then adamant he should have had a penalty when he seemed to have his standing leg taken out - a sentiment his manager shared.

"If Tom Manton goes down it's a penalty," he said.

Striker Paul Elliott showed good technique to acrobatically scissor kick a volley over the bar for the visitors but The Blues captain Alun Morey should have hit the target with a bullet header from eight yards.

It proved a warning sign as the hosts took the lead, Callum Britton breaking quickly down the left, drawing two defenders and sliding the ball across the six yard box for Steve Boston to tap home.

Manton had the ball in the net just two minutes later, Shaheen Sadough flicked a free kick to the back post with his head, and much to the YM player's dismay it was ruled out.

If Manton was frustrated with that decision he was furious with the next when Adam Davis clearly made contact in the area, and his decision not to throw himself to the turf unfortunately seemed to cost him.

Selsey were unhappy when YM were awarded a free kick on the left on the half hour mark, which Neil Watts curled into the area with perfection. Steve Metcalf s initial header was saved but Manton was on hand to sweep the rebound into the net, and this time it was the hosts' turn to feel a sense of injustice.

Selsey stopper Steve Philips was nearly left red faced at the start of the second half when he let Elliott's shot from wide on the left squirm out of his grasp and hit the bar.

The referee's insistence on playing drop balls frustrated both sides, but it was Selsey who created the chances..

Tom Jeffers had a low shot held by Tom Rand and then crossed for his strike partner Boston to miss the target with his head, and Britton forced a good save from Rand in a 20 minute spell of dominance.

YM emerged as the more likely to snatch it as the game drew on, Manton had a chance from a corner and then Sadough picked out Matt Geard in the area with a measured low cross. But it was Selsey who grabbed the winner when YM couldn't clear their lines and Rand could only parry a cross into Dobbs' path for him to smash high into the net.

"I was very critical after Saturday but I couldn't fault the effort," White said.

Man of the match: Neil Watts - his set pieces were dangerous.

Magic moment: Tom Manton's cross and Paul Elliott's overhead attempt in the opening ten minutes.
