Paul Elliott struck his fifth goal in five games via the penalty spot on 25 minutes, and despite the home side cre¬ating a host of chances it proved the winner.

Boss Chris White said: "It was an excellent result and probably the best all round performance of the season.

"Eastbourne are a very good side and we made them look poor which was purely down to well we played."

The Eastbourne keeper produced a good save to keep Shaheen Sadough out in the opening exchanges, and Matt Geard and Tom Manton also went close with efforts at goal before YM were awarded a penalty.

Sadough beat two defend-ers and whipped in a ball for Manton to get ahead of his man, but as he went to pull the trigger his legs were swept away and Elliott hit the top corner from 12 yards.

Eastbourne hit the crossbar just before the break when a speculative 45-yard shot dipped at the last moment, but that was the closest Tom Rand came to being tested in the match.

Tony Timms forced anoth-er good save with a header from a corner and several free kicks around the box were placed just wide in a dominant second half.

"We were a constant threat going forward and kept the ball very well but we were also good defensively which is something I have been crit¬ical of," White said.

"We are unbeaten in four now, so if we can turn that run into six or seven games then we will be doing well."
