CLAY Lament's last gasp header gave Horsham YMCA a 1-1 draw with Ryman League Whyteleafe and ensures they went into Monday's FA Cup draw.
Whyteleafe took the lead in the first qualifying round match through a Hudson strike, but YM dominated from there and levelled at the death to earn a replay which manager Chris White says his team is confident of winning.
"We are in the draw today and I'm reasonably happy going up there for the replay," he declared.
"They probably played as well as they can on Saturday, but I know we can play much better."
The visitors made the brighter start with YM keeper Tom Rand kept busy with dangerous crosses into the box, and took the lead mid-way through when the home defence failed with several chances to clear and Hudson took advantage by firing low from the edge of the area.
Slowly the hosts began to splutter into life and Shaheen Sadough had the chance to level before the break but his strike from just inside the area was well saved, and White read the riot act at half time.
"I said to the players before the game not to get overawed and I wasn't very happy at half-time, so I said we've got 45 minutes to stay in the cup or we can go out weakly," White said.
His players' response was to strive for the former by creating a number of chances, the first came to Tom Lawley after Sadough's cross/shot had been palmed into his path, but he shot wide when he should have scored.
Sadough then found himself in the clear but as he burst into the box he was pulled back by a defender, but chose to stay on his feet when a penalty would almost certainly have been reward had he taken a tumble, and was denied by another excellent save.
Moments after coming on, substitute Aaron Randsome broke down the left, but with men waiting at the back post he opted to strike near post and only found the side netting. But with a minute to go Lamont grabbed the equaliser by out jumping two defenders to guide an excellent Ben Harmond cross beyond the keeper to earn the replay.
"He (Lamont) was outstanding along with Paul Williams and James Virgo," said White.
"We were under a lot of pressure early on but they won every header and tackle and coped with everything they chucked at us, and in the second half their quality on the ball was good.
"A draw was no more than we deserved, we were by far the better side in the second half, we had chances to win it and if the game had gone on another ten minutes I think we would have won."
