HORSHAM YMCA booked their place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with a commanding 3-1 win over Tunbridge Wells at Gorings Mead.

YM have shown a liking for playing Kent teams, having seen off Faversham 2-0 in the previous round. Goals from Tom Lawley, Richard Carter and Steve • Metcalf ensured a safe passage through the preliminaries to the satisfaction of their manager Chris White.

"It was a very good performance with a number of players missing," he enthused.

"They hadn't lost a game this season before this one, and we were in control from start to finish and were never in danger of not winning."

Steve Metcalf and Tom Lawley had long range efforts saved while Richard Carter and Clay Lament had chances from corners before Lawley opened the scoring on 34 minutes.

When Metcalf was hauled down on the left hand side of the area, Lawley - who passed a late fitness test on a jarred back - stepped up to whip the ball in the far corner.

YM continued their dominance at the start of the second half and doubled their lead via the penalty spot when Ryan Bradley was brought down and Carter stepped up to score from 12 yards.

Metcalf missed a glorious chance to extend YM'S lead, fluffing a Carter cutback from the right by line, but he made no mistake when a carbon copy chance came his way and he slotted the ball into the corner.

YM continued to dominate and a Tunbridge defender was lucky to stay on the pitch after substitute Sam Blundell was fouled when clean through, and they got a consolation when Clay Lament was harshly adjudged to have committed a foul in the area and M Lord scored . the penalty.

"I'm very happy with those that have come in because of injury," said White.

"They have been given the opportunity and it's up to them to take it, and to be fair that's what they have done."
