Player Profiles: 2008-09 Season

Chris White – Manager

Previously Assistant Manager at Ryman League side Burgess Hill Town under Gary Croydon. Chris has also been Sussex U18’s coach, and 1st team manager at East Preston until June 2008, when he replaced outgoing YM manager John Suter.

Jason Rutherford – Assistant Manager

Jason teamed up with Chris in the summer of 2008. Jason brings managerial experience from Southwick, but also brings bad ties, money for a burger at half-time and a bottle opener, just in case he gets dry.

Darren Prior – Coach

Darren joined the club recently, from Arundel. A goalkeeper in his playing days, Darren is involved with training, and match day preparation. Darren shows his class in the half-time warm up…

Nathan Durrant – Physio

Former Clubs: Lewes, East Preston. Nathan joined the club this season, after Conference side Lewes decided ‘numpty’ was ‘over-qualified’, and kindly gave Chris the option of using him. Nathan can usually be seen wearing every piece of clothing out of the kit room, trying to find his predators, or messaging Richard Carter on Facebook.

Alex Barron – Goalkeeping Coach

Under 16’s Manager. Level 2 Coach, and Level 2 Goalkeeping Coach, Alex has Coaching experience with Brighton and Hove Albion, and Arsenals Academy sides. Has appeared as an emergency right-back, but is best off sticking to Coaching.

Tom Rand – Goalkeeper

Former Clubs: Lewes Reserves, Whitehawk, Wick, East Preston. Joined in June 2008. Oliver Kahn double who is remembered by most Horsham fans for an outstanding display (minus the last minute) for East Preston in the 2008 Brighton Charity Cup Final at Queen Street. Tom is always happy when best friend and ‘mentor’ Tom Manton is around.

Dan Humphreys – Goalkeeper

Former Clubs – Metropolitan Police, Southwater. Joined YM in September 2008, to deputise Tom Rand. Has made 4 first team appearances this season. Injury has kept Dan out of Football for a few years, but is now playing regularly for the reserve side.

Steve Metcalf – Defence

Former Clubs – Worthing, Lewes, East Preston. Defender who joined in the summer of 2008 from East Preston. Scored all 4 goals on his league debut against Hailsham Town.

James Virgo – Defence

2008 Shirt Sponsor – Burger King Former Clubs: Brighton and Hove Albion, Worthing, Dover Athletic, East Preston. Club Captain. Joined YM in June 2008, Solid Centre Back who is involved with coaching at the Club. Can usually be seen in McDonalds on a weekday, or so I’ve heard….

Clay Lamont – Defence

Joined the club in the summer of 2008. Clay has put in some ‘mom’ displays since his arrival, and generally wins every header going. Can also be seen in an opposition box at times scoring vital goals.

Paul Williams – Defence

Former Clubs: Burgess Hill Town, Littlehampton Town, East Preston, Horsham YMCA Willows rejoined the club in the summer, after leaving East Preston. The oldest player on the books, Paul is a decent Right Back who always puts in a good shift, well usually.

Ben Harwood – Defence

Former Clubs: East Preston, Clymping Joined YM midway through September from Division three side Clymping. ‘Woody’ is a specialist at set-pieces. Currently out injured with a Broken Collarbone, Ben can now be seen watching games from the burger bar.

Martyn Flack – Defence

Former Clubs: Broadbridge Heath. Joined YM in 2006. Flacky has Ryman League experience with YM, and is the only surviving member of the squad from last season.

Chris Georgio – Defence

Former Clubs: East Preston. Joined YM in the summer of 2008. Has appeared mainly from the bench this season, but has played well when needed. Chris is the star of the half-time entertainment.

Tony Timms – Defence

Former Clubs: Southwick. Joined YM in June 2008. Has played in the middle of midfield this season as well, and has looked good in both positions.

Tom Manton – Midfield

Former Clubs – Wick. Tom Rand’s best friend joined in the summer of 2008, and after breaking his foot in an FA Cup win at Faversham Town, ‘magic’ has recently come back into the side, Tom plays well when he knows his best mate is right behind him.

Neil Watts – Midfield

Former Clubs: Southwick. Joined in June 2008. An exciting prospect for the future, Neil was injured against Lingfield, and made his comeback for the 1st’s against Eastbourne United. Neil has currently been deployed at Right Back, because Paul Williams is under the thumb.

Shaheen Sadough – Midfield

Former Clubs: Crawley Town, Saltdean United, Littlehampton Town, Burgess Hill Town, Shoreham. Well Travelled Winger/Striker who started his career at Crawley Town, winning the Sussex Senior Cup. Started off this season upfront, but has moved back into a Right Wing position, where he can exploit the Full Backs with his trickery. Shaz loves shooting practise during training, and getting his ball back from number 42.

Richard Carter – Midfield

Former Clubs: Shoreham. Joined in the Summer of 2008, ‘Carts’ rarely gives the ball away when he has it. Penalty Specialist (Apart from Whyteleafe).

Scott Marshall – Midfield

Former Clubs: Crystal Palace, Crawley Town, Horsham YMCA, Hastings United. Scott rejoined in October 2008, after a spell at Hastings United. A Quality player on the ball, and is always busy.

Matt Geard – Midfield

Former Clubs: Ringmer, Horsham, Lewes. Geardy signed in September from Conference Premier side Lewes. Has scored 5 goals in 7 games since his arrival. Matt has a squeaky-clean Displinary record since his arrival….

Wayne Joseph – Midfield

Former Clubs – Southwick. Signed in June 2008, Wayne has made a good impression amongst the YM Faithful on the right wing. Is currently getting back to full fitness after Tendonitis.

Tom Lawley – Midfield

Former Clubs: Worthing, Littlehampton Town (Loan), East Preston. Joined YM in June 2008. Former Sussex youth team player, Tom is a dangerous winger, who specialises in dead ball situations. Tom likes to go on holidays during football season, and watches comedians on training nights. Dedicated club man.

Paul Elliott – Forward

Former Clubs: Worthing. Joined YM in September 2008. Hard working lone man who is capable of scoring goals from anywhere. You can see Paul on most weekdays on Brighton seafront with a skateboard. Needs a haircut.

Michael Death – Forward

Former Clubs: Horsham, Oakwood, Three Bridges, Horsham YMCA. Came back to YM for a second spell, in June 2008. ‘Deathy’ has struggled with injury this season, but his claims of ‘I used to be good’, seems to be unfounded.

Ryan Bradley – Forward

Former Clubs: Whitehawk. Joined in June 2008. Has recently come back after a ankle injury sustained in a pre-season game against East Thurrock United. Can be seen between the sticks at half-time, Ryan is best mates with Physio Nathan Durrant, and can be seen sitting together during matches.

James Rhodes – Forward

Former Clubs: Southwick, Three Bridges, Worthing United, East Preston. Former East Preston player, from 2006-2008, before signing for YM in June 2008. Suffered a broken arm in Pre-season against Pease Pottage, and is yet to make his League Debut. Club Moaner.
