Suter aims to steady ship with relaxed outlook

A PERIOD of upheaval for Horsham YMCA his reached its conclusion according to manager John Suter, who says his side 'has turned a corner'.

Last week proved particularly rough for the Gorings Mead side, losing to nine men Chipstead and the resigition of coach Colin Jenkinson followed the defection of Adam Jupp, Chris May and James Hancock to Sussex-based Ryman rivals.

So when a relaxed atmosphere descended on Gorings Mead on Saturday, Suter admitted it was the happiest he had felt all season prior to prior to kick off against Canvey and in the FA Trophy.

YM lost 3-1 but Suter was not unhappy with his side.

Scott Bidwell made his debut at centre back, alongside Martyn Flack whose only other experience at this level was 20 minutes in the 2-2 draw at Walton Casuals the previous Tuesday.

"It's the first home game since everyone had gone," Suter said.

"The performance was good we were undone by some quality finishing and we have had chances to score ourselves.

"I have enjoyed today, the attitude and commitment was good, the only thing wrong was the result. The performance with reserve team players is wholly acceptable.

"I feel we have turned the corner now the leakage of players has stopped."

YM are out of the FA Cup and Trophy and from ten league games have five points to their name, but things are starting to look up.

Suter commented: "When you think we are coming off a miserable season with one win and two draws out of ten league games, and you have to play a team like Canvey, you could understand people being low on confidence, but the mood in the changing room has been good.

"I am hopeful we have turned the corner and when we get players like Matt Russell, Glen Woodburn and Tom White back we will be able to move on from there."

White was unavailable on Saturday, while Woodburn is likely to be out for a month with an ankle injury, but Russell could return for Saturday's visit of Cray.

Suter added: "I'm not depressed, I said to the players I feel happier today (Saturday) than I have all season, it was a good build up to the game and the players were relaxed."
