LATE drama in the basement battle saw Horsham YMCA draw 2-2 at Molesey on Tuesday evening (October 30).
Both sides only boast one win apiece to their name and were desperate for three points but in the end a share of the spoils was fair.
Matt Duffield was given the captain's arm band on his 300th appearance for the club and he celebrated it by opening the scoring with a cool finish midway through the first half.
A screamer from Chiko Kadzonbe in the 65th minute levelled the scores and it looked as though the hosts had won it when substitute Andy Davidson scored in the last minute.
However, Christian Gainet came off the bench to rise higher than anyone else to head home his first senior YM goal three minutes into injury time.
"We could have won it with the chances we had," said manager John Suter. "We could have been more than 1-0 up at half time which would have been crucial.
"But Ken Westoby kept us in the game. He played very well, particularly that one in the second half from point blank range, the players don't know how he kept it out.
"So they will feel like they should have won the game so maybe a draw was a fair result."
The hosts had more of the ball at the start but YM had a good outlet in Duffield down the right, one long ball released him but Matt Russell just failed to make contact from his centre.
Molesey were then kept at bay three times by Ken Westoby, he parried Luke Edghill's stinging drive after Andy Ottley gave away possession, denied Grant Keywood and saved brillinat-ly with his leg's from Kadzonbe's half volley.
YM then took the lead against the run of play in the 22nd minute, again Molesey were undone by a long ball and Duffield took a touch before delightfully lifting it over the advancing keeper.
The visitors came within inches of doubling their lead minutes later, a great run from Russell broke the offside trap and he squared the ball for Matt Simpson but it went wide from close range when he was under pressure from a defender.
Tom White impressed at the back, keeping the Moles at bay and at the other end Joe Keehan went close and James Grant set up Russell but his prod goalwards was hooked off the line.
Early in the second half Michael Death went close twice and Edghill was again thwarted by Westoby before the keeper made the save of the match - somehow keeping out Ben Beswick's shot from point blank range.
However, there was nothing he could do "about Kadzonbe's strike from the edge of the box that flew into the far corner.
As the half wore on White produced a fine block challenge on Kadzonbe and Keehan went close for YM but after a free-kick was given away in the 90th minute, Davidson finished from close range. "I thought 'here we go again'," remarked Suter.
But YM didn't lie down and Keehan won a corner when his effort was well saved by Jon Ashwood. From the set piece, the smallest man in the box - Gainet -rose well and planted a header into the back of the net.
YM (4-4-2): ): Westoby; Garden, White, Flack, Ottley; Duffield (Keaney 90), Simpson, Keehan, Grant; Death (Gainet 65), Russell (Greenfield 88).
Man of the match: : Ken Westoby - pulled off some terrific stops.
Magic moment: When Christian Gainet rose to head home the equaliser.
