Jenkinson Named

28 June 2007

JOHN Suter has acted swiftly to appoint a new right hand man at Horsham YMCA, following last week's departure of Tommy Sampson.

Colin Jenkinson, a former YM assistant boss, took the position in place of Sampson, who has moved on to County League Division 1 side Redhill.

And Jenkinson has a proven record at the club, in the time he served alongside Suter, they reached the fourth round of the FA Vase, the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup and the semi final of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Jenkinson, currently the youth development officer at ^rawley Town, said: "It's :antastic to be back alongside 'ohn.

"I helped out a little bit last year on and off and it's good to be back full time.

"I have got a lot of Ryman League experience and before I came to Sussex, I had aways been involved at Ryman level."

When Sampson left, manger Suter described the loss » a big hole, but Jenkinson -ho has coached at Hampton Richmond and was in large of the woman's and girls' academy at Rushden and Diamonds - is confident i can fill the gap.

"I am a UEFA B qualified coach," he said.

"I have got a lot of experience of coaching at all levels - the Ryman League is nothing new to me and a lot of the grounds we go to will be familiar.

"I will work a lot on fitness and organisation. I think we all have our own strengths and I will do it differently to Tommy in some ways and I am sure anyone else will do the same.

"I wanted to get back into full time coaching and YM gave me that opportunity."

"We had a very good season when we were together first of all," Suter commented. "He was around in bit form last season helping out a bit. He is involved at Crawley Town - that is a nice link between the two clubs, we might even get a friendly out of it. I'm pleased to have Colin on board, he knows what he is talking about.

"It's good news that I have done this nice and quick.

"I had a couple of other people interested in the job, and Colin was almost in. I like promoting from within wherever possible.

"We are set up now, we will miss Tommy and his knowledge, but Colin. offers something different. He is a good coach in his own right."
