Suter 'concern' at YM's lack of goals

GOALS are proving hard to come by for Horsham YMCA as they have struggled at the start of the league season.

They have netted just three times in five Ryman Division 1 South games and it was hard to see where goals were going to come by in a couple of those matches.

YM were clinical in the FA Cup as they despatched Chessington & Hook 4-1 in the preliminary round, but in those six matches their top scorer - Steve Davies - has just two goals.

Manager John Suter admitted that a lack of fire-power is a 'concern' after Saturday's defeat at home to Whitstable leaves them struggling near the bottom of the table.

"It wasn't a great game in all honesty but it's a game we should have won and you don't want to lose to teams in and around you," he said.

"They are big games, it's not like losing to teams at the top - you half expect that.

"It's a mini league at the bottom now, you need to beat teams around you to get. out of that so it was an important three points not to get," rued Suter.

"You cannot bemoan anything because if you cannot put the ball into the back of the net you get punished by a team who had two decent chances.

"Good strikers tend to want a bit of dosh and I haven't got a bit of dosh," explained the YM supremo who has faith in the strikers at the club. "There are people at the club capable of scoring goals but not on Saturday."

YM are also suffering in the defensive department as only one recognised defender played at the back on Saturday.

Striker Matt Russell deputised for injured duo Ellis Hooper and Kevin Joyce at centre back with midfielders Matt Duffield and Andy Ottley playing as full-backs.

"Dean Carden has got a toe that has been giving him a lot of aggrevation," remarked Suter. "If Dean says it's too painful you believe him because he will play through anything."

Although the YM right-back may be available tomorrow (Saturday)depending on how Thursday night's training session went.

Suter added: "Ellis [Hooper] is improving all the time, we keep saying a couple of weeks but we don't know. He's close to running on it but it will be a couple of weeks minimum."

Having overcome Chessington, YM's reward is a first qualifying round trip to Folkestone Invicta in the FA tomorrow (Saturday)with a depleted squad but they are not going there to make up the numbers.
