A LACKLUSTRE Horsham YMCA lost 3-0 at home to local rivals Burgess Hill Town on Easter Monday.
The visitors exacted revenge frdm the 4-0 Boxing Day beating that was dished out by John Suter's men, however, on this occasion YM were second best to everything.
The Hillians looked like they wanted it more, were always in the faces of their opposition and were sharper.
They were rewarded by an early goal for Lloyd Skinner, leading scorer Ashley Jarvis doubled their advantage and substitute James Martin made sure of the points just after the interval.
Suter commented: "I'm not going to try to find excuses, we played poorly.
"We played as if we had ten men in the second half.
"We played as if it had been a long hard season and it looked like we wanted the season to be over.
"It was a tired performance against youngsters who were sharp and incisive."
Burgess Hill started as if they meant business and wanted to put things right from the drubbing they received earlier in the campaign. It was not the same Hillians side this time, they included players from Brighton & Hove Albion who were gaming experience and they looked lively.
The visitors took the lead in the fourth minute when Jarvis laid the ball off for Skinner who took a touch before firing into the bottom corner.
In the eighth minute YM went close to equalising with a rare moment of quality, a free kick was headed to the edge of the box where Matt Russell expertly controlled his volley that dipped just wide of the upright with the keeper beaten.
The second goal arrived in the 28th minute when a short back pass from Glen Woodburn was latched on to by Jarvis, he knocked the ball past Dean Ruddy before blasting into an empty net.
YM were trying to shoot themselves in the foot as the only bit of football they played was in their defensive third, with Nick Levett and Ellis Hooper guilty of giving the ball away more than once. ^^
In the second half Russell volleyed straight down the throat of Andre Foster with the hosts' only effort on target before Burgess Hill extended their lead.
A lovely ball was played through to Martin who dinted the ball over the on rushing Ruddy to score after being on the pitch for just three minutes.
YM had a brief spell when Scott Kirkwood and Andy Ottley influenced the game more but their only chance came when a corner fell to Hooper at the far post but he drilled it wide.
Man of the Match: Steve Davies - worked his socks off up front with no service.
Magic moment: The brilliantly executed volley from Matt Russell.
YM (4-4-2): Ruddy; Garden, Hooper.Woodburn (Ottley 45), Levett; Duffield (Greenfield 63), White (Taylor 66), Sackman, Kirkwood; Davies, Russell (Taylor 59).
