HORSHAMYMCA footballers swapped studs for spikes when they took to the fairways to raise funds for the club.

Fans, officials and players past and present played in the golf day at Gatton Manor on Wednesday, September 20, to boost the club's coffers by £1,018.

Playing in the Ryman League for the first time this season means Horsham YMCA's budget is severely stretched, so assistant manager Tommy Sampson organised the golf day, among other fundraising initiatives.

"It was a fantastic day," he remarked.

"It was well worth our

Idle putting on.

"You only had to notice the difference between us and Leatherhead on Saturday to realise there is an enormous gulf at this level.

"All the money goes to the club and will at least help us look the part, things like decent training balls and tracksuit tops."

Dean Garden carded the winning individual score of 41 stableford points, and the team of Ellis Hooper, Pat Massaro and Steve Best took the team prize with a combined score of 131 points.

Sampson added: "Our expectations on the pitch are sensible, and if we can find a few pounds here and there that all helps."
