YM's Russell Eldridge, picture courtesy of the West Sussex County Times JOHN Suter's sangria will taste all the more sweeter this week after YM won their sixth league match in succession following a 3-1 success at Rye.

The veteran YM manager masterminded a comfortable victory over last year's runners-up before jetting off to Spain on Sunday morning for a ten day break.

"It was job done," said Suter as he spoke from underneath a clear blue sky in Spain. "We can play better though and against better sides we will have to play better. But three points is three points."

The visitors, who beat the same opponents 5-2 in the Norman Wingate Trophy in August, took the lead in the fourth minute when Dean Garden threw to James Grant. He crossed to Adam O'Carroll who laid the ball back to Russell Eldridge who drilled home from 25 yards.

YM almost doubled their lead moments later when O'Carroll and Greg Brabon, their two talented teenage wingers, combined. Unfortunately, the latter's touch was a little heavy allowing Rye's goalkeeper to mop up the danger.

Tom Cusden, Rye's best player, fired straight at Ian Chatfield but Kris Trevor showed him how to do it at the other end as YM made in 2-0 on 25 minutes.

Rye's centre-halves were penalised for hesitating under Chatfield's long kick by Trevor who gathered possession, wriggled free and shot past the keeper.

It was Trevor's fourth goal of the season but his first since August 20 having recently served a 35 day ban for a red card last season.

Trevor and Flint both had chances to add number three as did Eldridge who drilled wide from outside the box. James Simms then headed over as Rye enjoyed a rare moment of success.

YM's third goal arrived in the 59th minute. Eldridge sent Flint charging down the left who crossed for Trevor to pick his spot from close range.

Rye were given a glimmer of hope in the 65th minute when Cusden scored from the spot following Ian Gilmour's foul and buoyed by the goal the hosts went in search of a second.

Brett Griffin went close with a free-kick that hit the crossbar and Chatfield needed to be at his best to turn Sam Taylor's effort round the post soon after.

Taylor should have done better when he missed from point blank range but it was YM who finished the stronger with Eldridge and Grant both squandering decent openings.
Team: (4-4-2): Chatfield; Garden, Carter, Woodburn, Levett; Brabon (Gilmour 60), Grant, Eldridge, O'Carroll (Sleat 60); Trevor, Flint (Maniz Hudai 67).
