Champion's Horsham YMCA continued their good start to the season thanks to a first half own goal by Shoreham captain Matt Hurley. Shoreham will feel disappointed that they did not take anything from this game as they outplayed their understrength visitors for large parts of it.
Shoreham began the stronger, with Martin O'Donnell's shot being cleared off the line as early as the 12th minute. The only goal of the game came against the run of play when a speculative cross was met by the head of the unfortunate Hurley, with the ball looping out of the reach of Callaghan in the home goal.
This goal gave YMCA more confidence and they could have gone further ahead in the 39th minute when Callaghan had to use his feet to clear a good shot by Kris Trevor.
The second half was rather uneventful with the best chances falling to Shoreham as a result of almost identical free kicks by Ben Milford. The first one forced a stretching save by Ian Chatfield who scrambled away an almost identical chance 15 minutes later.
