YMCA celebrate special achievement

YM skipper Matt Duffield: "It feels awesome, absolutely awesome.

I said at the end of last season that if we were a really big club we'd do it again.

Big clubs in the past like Burgess Hill were doing it year after year - and other clubs who had won it failed to do really well the following year.

So to do it twice in a row is something really speŽcial.

Assistant manager Tommy Sampson: "I'm delighted. For me personally - I'm a manager in my own right - I wasn't going to work for anyone else apart from John.

John won the league last year so there was a lot of pressure on me but it was a good decision.

"The lads have been terrific, we've worked very hard.

We are what we are - not a team with a lot of finance but we work hard.

We've got three or four super players.

"I think we deserve it.

We've won the league because we've worked hard and have been well disciplined. John is a top man - he knows his football, he is a gentleŽman and a classy manŽager. I'm pleased for him," he added.

"I'm absolutely sure we can hold our own. We need three or four players but every team that gets promoted do.

"I know what it's like to be in the Ryman League, I know how easy it is to lose and how difficult it is to win - I understand that.

I have consistently played and managed at a better level.

"I think we will hold our own and surprise a few people.

You don't become a Ryman League player overnight.

It's going to be how much desire the players have got.

They've shown great desire over the last 12 months," remarked the former Deal Town manager.

Top scorer Matt Russell: "I've really enjoyed the half a season I've had with YM.

"The confidence is there and a winning mentality, which is always good.

Some of the players haven't played at that level [Ryman League] and they want to test themselves."
