YM's James Grant, Picture by Mick Burren, courtesy of the West Sussex County Times JAMES Grant and Steve Davies were YM's heroes for the second time in a week after the pair scored in the 2-0 win aver Hailsham.

After a dull first half -'pushing a shopping trolley round a supermarket would have been more entertaining' was manager John Suter's verdict - YM finally moved through the gears, helped by the introduction of Matt Duffield, Joel O'Hara and Tom Carter.

Grant, described by Suter as 'brilliant', caused havoc after the interval with his dazzling ball skills and he opened the scoring in the 67th minute.

After a move which involved Barrie Westgate, Ali Russell and Davies, Grant cut in from the wing and fired a shot in at the near post.

It was his third goal in five games and his ninth league goal this season.

Davies is also in red-hot form and YM's top scorer cemented his reputation with his fourth goal in five games to put the hosts 2-0 up six minutes later.

After a series of cute one-twos with Duffield, Davies was felled in the box only to get up,dust himself off and fire in the resulting penalty.

Davies had missed a great chance to open the scoring in the first half but he headed Grant's cross straight at the Hailsham keeper.

"It was a much better second half and a much welcome three points," said Suter.

Hailsham had chances to score themselves but Scott French and Nick Harden were denied by lan Chatfield, who had an excellent game. "His kicking was superb all afternoon," said the YM boss.

It was YM's second win in succession after back-to-back defeats against Rye and Littlehampton.

"All the time we win it does not matter what the other teams do. They have to rely on what we do. We want to shift the pressure on to the chasing teams," he added.
