JOHN Suter has come out of retirement in a bid to fire YM to the County League title.

The 64 year old manager has finally lost patience after seeing his players squander numerous gilt-edged chances as they stutter towards league glory.

Monday's 1-0 defeat at home to Three Bridges, where YM managed only four shots on target from 16 attempts, was the last straw.

"It's the obvious solution," said Suter, who netted more than 600 goals during his free-scoring playing days, even attracting the interest of Arsenal.

"I am the best two footed player at the club and will be very disappointed if I can't do better than the players did against Bridges -1 only need to get one shot in four on target to be an improvement," he added.

Despite not playing a competitive match since 1984, Suter has been keeping himself fit by running after work and spends most lunchtimes at the Gorings Mead ground firing shots into an empty net.

"People say it's a young man's game, but when you only have four shots on target, then maybe it's an old man's game. Anyway, class is ageless," added Suter, who signed on at the beginning of March.

Although reasonably fit for his age, Suter admits he is unlikely to last a full 90 minutes.

"I will start on Saturday and just see how many goals I can get. The rest of the lads will have to work hard, I won't be chasing 40 yard passes, but if they create the chances I will score goals. When I do score, people will see that I know how to celebrate," he added.

Ironically, Suter's first game is against Littlehampton, the side who he spent half a season with nearly 50 years ago. The Marigolds' manager, Carl Stabler, is also a good mate, although friendship will mean nothing when Suter crosses the touchline.

"I would love to score my first goal against Littlehampton," he added.
