Levett handed England call up
YM HAVE an England international in their ranks after Nick Levett was called up to play Futsal - a new breed of five-a-side football -for his country.
The 28 year old, who plays left-back for the County League leaders, is one of 12 players selected for a quadrangular tournament in Lille, which starts next Monday with a clash against hosts France.
"I'm shocked and delighted," said the FA school-club link project manager.
Futsal, which is recognised by both FIFA and UEFA, is a fast flowing indoor game that is well known around the globe.
Played with a weighted size four ball, on a 40x20m pitch with 3x2m goals, Futsal differs from other forms of indoor football in that there are boundaries around the pitch.
Once the ball has been knocked out of play, participants must kick the ball on to the pitch within three seconds.
Games are 20 minutes each way, although halves often last as long as 35 minutes as the referee stops his watch when the ball is not in play.
"The pace of the game is so much quicker than in five-a-side," he explained.
Nick introduced his Gorings Mead team-mates to the sport and they are fans of the growing game.
"The boys really enjoyed it. It makes you think a lot more and makes you better technically," he added.
