"WE HAD an excellent opportunity to win on Saturday and we did not take it," rued YM boss John Suter after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Gosport Borough on Tuesday night.

The two sides crossed swords again after their 3-3 thriller in the original tie but the trip down to Hampshire was always going to be a tough test for the Gorings Mead men.

But YM battled hard in the first half, competing wholeheartedly in midfield, and fully deserved to go into the break level at 0-0.

However, parity did not last long and Gosport took the lead in the 53rd minute when Wayne Potter's clearance fell favourably for Stuart Hensman who crossed for Graham Lindsey to head home.

YM responded magnificently and could have equalised soon after when Joel O'Hara's cross rebounded off a home defender into the grateful arms of the tall Gosport keeper.

The visitors kept on piling on the pressure and only the excellence of the Gosport keeper kept YM at bay when he first saved from Package Price and then palmed away Matt Duffield's superb volley that was heading into the top corner.

"The only thing wrong about the night was the result," said a disappointed Suter. "But I felt that we could come away with our heads held high, having lost to a good side."
