Joel O'Hara, picture courtesy of the West Sussex County Times YM made up for their opening day disappointment with a much improved performance against Redhill on Tuesday night.

"It was nice to win," admitted YM manager John Suter, who was quick to point out that one game does not make a season.

"It was a lot better than Saturday but there is still room for improvement and we have players to come back."

On the excellent Gorings Mead pitch, Ryan Andrews had the hosts' first chance in the 11th minute when his free-kick was saved by Redhill keeper before it was hacked away to safety.

Gil Taylor went even closer after 35 minutes and was just the width of the post away from giving YM the lead. Andrews' free-kick found Taylor with his back to goal who turned cleverly before shooting against the upright before Redhill cleared the ball as Phill Churchill lurked for scraps.

Churchill shot just past the post moments later as YM threatened to take the lead just before the break. But at the other end, James Plumiey had to be alert to tip over a rasping 25 yard drive from Herve King.

Ben Jones shot into the side netting early in the second half and Redhill were unlucky not to find the net when Jones went on the overlap after a free-kick and crossed to YM defender Paul Charman who deflected the ball onto the post and into Plumley's grateful arms.

But that was as close as the visitors got and from a David Oakes free-kick, Joel O'Hara clinically headed YM int a 75th minute lead.

It was all over five minutes from time after a move that swept from box to box. From a Redhill corner, Ian Fenn cleared to Taylor on the edge of the box who in turn set O'Hara free with a ball down the inside left chan nel. After a long run in possession, he cut the ball back to Dean Carden who rifled the ball into the net with his lefi foot from the edge of the box for his first goal for the club.

"It was a double whammy. Dear does not score goals and it was his left foot," sald Suter.
