THE YM manager was in a downcast mood on Saturday after his team slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Hailsham.

"We were rubbish," was Suter's blunt assessment. "We were short of players but that is no excuse for the way we played. There were some very poor performances amongst a very poor team performance."

Paul Richardson gave Hailsham the lead in the 17th minute when he drove home from ten yards after YM failed to clear their lines and the visitors were 2-0 down three minutes later when defender Josh Maynard put the ball in the back of his own net.

Joel O'Hara gave YM hope when he clinically headed in David Oakes' corner and Steve Davis could have levelled it when his turn and shot was saved by Jamie Furber.

"It was a very disappointing start to the season especially as I do feel that Hailsham will not be one of the teams that finish in the top half. It was not a good game," Suter added.

Team: Plumley; Garden, Maynard (Rigden 25), Fenn, Oakes; Andrews, Potter, Brown; O'Hara, Churchill (Friar 62), Taylor (Davis 50).
